The 77th Miss Globe Beauty Pageant was held before midnight on September 9, 2001 Saturday at Lütfi Kırdar Congress Palace located in Istanbul, Turkey. Candidates from 83 countries joined the contest. In the contest, which lasted 5 hours including the opening ceremony, the jury granted the title and crown of Miss Globe to Miss Maricar Balagtas, who contested on behalf of Philippines.

The new Miss Globe Beauty Queen was born in Plaridel, Bulacan, Philippines on May 29, 1983 and her full name is Maricar Manalaysay Balagtas. She is 1.69 tall and has the body sizes of 85-61-89. The Queen has black and abundant hair and dark brown eyes. The Queen from Philippines also became the holder of the Best National Costume Award. On the other hand, 1.77 tall Miss Serap Çetin contested on behalf of Turkey but was disqualified.

The Grand Jury granted the title and honor of the First Maid of Honor to the delegate of Puerto Rico, Arlene Torres, the title and honor of the Second Maid of Honor to the delegate of Spain, Patricia Gómez Girón, the title and honor of the Third Maid of Honor to the delegate of Brazil, Priscila Andrade and the title and honor of the Forth Maid of Honor to the delegate of Belarus, Katya Gotdonkova. The number of delegates was 83 in total but decreased to 28 in the first round. In the semi-final, the girls presented an amazing show for the purpose of holding the crown of Miss Globe.

Süha Özgermi, the president of the first international competition in Miss Globe Beauty Pageants, Mrs. Karin Jardel and Mrs. Sibel Turnagöl sat side by side in the Grand Jury.

The Queen from Philippines made a press statement and answered the questions following the contest. She said ‘I am the daughter of a middle income family. We live in Bulacan town. We know how to take bliss from small acquisitions. I had a high opinion of winning the crown and title of Miss Globe. I had been prepared for this contest for months. I am happy to be among the women who are mentioned by their beauties. I graduated from Centro Escolar University’s Department of Communication with a high degree. From now on, I will go after my dreams in the show business. For me, friendship is very sacred. I am known as a trustworthy person among my friends. I will continue to preserve it. According to me, love and respect are eminent values. I present the Miss Globe crown to my country. I accepted this crown on behalf of my country and those who love me.”
